Grant - legless again

News

281.  Good luck to all members competing at the Clumber park Duathlon and the Burntwood Aquathlon this weekend.  Both races are the first races in the MVH adult and junior championships for 2010.

280.  The deal is done!  The new Open Water Swimming Venue for 2010 and hopefully many years is at the Manor Park Sailing Club in Kings Bromley, Staffordshire.  Location is here:- 'Click'.  It is anticipated that the first session will be on Saturday 8th May 2010.  More details to follow soonest.

279.  I would like to remind all members that when they join MVH they have agreed to follow by the rules, code of conduct and equity policy of the club and the facilities that we use.  All of the club policies can be found on this website.  Any breach of these policies by any member will result in the necessary action being taken by the committee against the said member which could lead to the dismissal of that member from the club.  This may seem a little extreme and I must stress that there has been no incident within MVH since the club was founded in 2005 but we must remind members of these measures as part of the 'Star' Award criteria.

278.  It is my unfortunate and highly embarrassing duty to inform everyone that the Rosliston Duathlon has been cancelled.  I apologise for any inconvenience caused to your racing calender this year.  This decision has not been made lightly but the MVH Tri Club committee made this decision due to economic and resource reasons.

The reasons for cancelling this event are many;

a.    Restriction placed up us from sources beyond our control
b.    Various other event's on the same day in the area
c.    Lack of entries
d.    Escalating costs which would make the event too expensive for the organisers and athletes.

Essentially we tried to keep the costs as minimal as possible but the various policies (from a number of sources) imposed on this event along with the lack of numbers entered has made the event economically impossible to organise and due to the fact that we are a non-profit club (and not a professional race organisation) the lack of entries meant that the club would make a huge loss which would be too burdensome to withstand.

Again, I apologise for any inconvenience caused and a FULL REFUND will be made to each and every athlete that entered (via cheque/post).  I will also offer all the athletes who have already entered a 50% discount on any future event that MVH Tri Club organise.

I wish you all the best in the season ahead.

There will be no replacement race in the MVH Championship.

277.  Arrangements for the MVH Junior Awards ceremony and party night.
To celebrate the success of our junior triathletes and the great season that they’ve had we’re planning a fun session at the Snowdome in Tamworth on Saturday 23rd Jan 2010.

The evening will look provisionally like this.

1730 MVH Junior Awards in a hired room at the Snowdome.

Female

1.      Rebecca Brayer - 212% (5 Races but best 2 count) - New and first MVH Junior Female Champion!!

2.      Pheobe Williams - 216% (4 Races but best 2 count)

3.      Alana Taylor - 219% (4 Races but best 2 count)

Male

1.      Michael Wynne - 205% (5 Races but best 2 count) - New and first MVH Male Champion!!

2.      Andrew McKinlay - 283% (2 Races)

3.      Jamie Cussens - 115% (1 Race)

This will be a short ceremony to present our awards for 2009 and the more support we can get for this time the better so please all do come along for 1730 whether you have a winner in the family or not.

1800 There will be a junior swim disco for 8-14 year olds hosted in the main pool by the snowdome itself. This is a public session so there should be plenty of young swimmers around to create a good atmosphere. There is a live disco, inflatables and water slides so it should be a bit of fun.

2000 – Swim session finishes and optional ice skating begins.

What to do next?

MVH are funding the trophies, room and junior swim entrance so it’s important Grant Mckinlay knows how many are going before the 16th Jan so he can purchase the right number of tickets.

Ice skating is open to all and runs 1930-2130 but this is self financing and up to you. The McKinlay’s will all be taking part in this as well as Adrian and Clare for starters.

Please contact Grant McKinlay direct to confirm your attendance:- grant.mckinlay@northernfoods.com

262.  MVH Xmas Party & Presentation Evening - Saturday 5th December 2009 - 7pm - 27 confirmed attendees already.

I know its early but please see below the details of the faboulous annual MVH Xmas Party & Presentation Evening for 2009.
For all those who don't know:- This is a very, very, very succesful evening where members can mingle and enjoy a wonderful evening celebrating the 2009 season.  The previous 3 years have been fantastic and have grown year on year.  Let make this year the most succesful!!

Due to popular demand the party will take place at our spiritual home, the Meynell Ingram Arms in Hoar Cross, Burton-on-Trent.  See link for the website and location:-
http://www.themeynell.co.uk/functions.html

The presentation will begin at approx 7:30pm and then dinner will start at 8pm followed by a Disco with the resident DJ until 12 midnight (approximate times at this stage).

We had 60+ members at the party last year and this was when we had less than 100 people in the club! This party is open to all MVH members, family and friends.  This was a total success last year and a real 'let your hair down' event for all adult members of MVH.  Come and enjoy another succesful year of this wonderful club and meet some of the members.  All new 2009 members must try to come along to fully appreciate why this club was first formed!

Tickets are £26.50 per person for this you get 3 course Christmas Dinner, Disco with resident DJ and a wonderful evening!  Anyone can attend, you can bring along family, friends etc, etc.  This is only an increase of £1.50 on last year and MVH make no profit from this price.

What to do now?

1.    Let me know by e-mail that you would like to attend, how many tickets and who else is in your party (I need the full names - for name cards on the tables).

2.    I need at least the deposit of £10.00 per ticket for the Christmas Party & Presentation Evening by Saturday 31st October 2009, as I need to pay the deposits to the pub by the first week in November or you can pay the full amount if you prefer which is £26.50 per ticket.

3.    Once you have confirmed your attendance, I need to know your menu choices (by e-mail):- http://www.themeynell.co.uk/documents/TheMeynell-XmasMenu2009_000.pdf

4.    Pay me the full amount by Saturday 28th November 2009.

A junior event is being organised seperately by Grant McKinlay and will be confirmed.

Sorry, but the licencing of the event only permits ages of 18+ only.

Payment
- Cash or cheques are acceptable.  All cheques to be made payable to 'MVH Tri Club'.

Any cash must be paid in person at any of the sessions that myself or Clare are attending (primarily swimming on Saturday's or cycling on Sunday's) but cheques can also be accepted at swimming and cycling.  If you can't get to either session please send a cheque via post to the following address (with all attendee details):

5 Anslow Road
Hanbury
Burton-on-Trent
Staffordshire
DE13 8TJ

Once all the deposits are in, I can then confirm with the pub the numbers attending.

Its going to be a great night, so come along.
I promise not to be too harsh with the Sunday cycle the day after!!

202.   Well done to all the MVH members that competed in the Alsager 5 miler at the weekend.   Some great times were ran and   a new club record has been set by Ashley Hurdman.

The results of the races can be found on the 'results' (click)   page.   Please check out the 'Hall of Fame' for any updates.

201.   Unless told otherwise there are no Barton Marina rides this Sunday due to most members competing in the Mercia Reliability 100/50km Rides starting from Shobnall Leisure Complex on Sunday at 10am (hurrah, a lie in!).   If anyone would like to organise another ride then please let me know and I will advertise it.

Earlier entries have now been deleted.
