80.   End of Season Aquathlon, Barton Marina, 900 meters (approx) – 5km, 10:30am - 29 September 2007

This is an end of season race designed to get everyone together at open water swimming for one last hurrah before we move into the ‘Winter Training Schedule’. Everyone is welcome, irrelevant of standard and a few members will be in the bar afterwards for lunch. There are no prizes for the event this year (just the title of Aquathlon Champion), but results with splits (accurate as possible) will be published on the website. The late time is to give the water as much opportunity as possible to warm up!!

Entry £3.00 for everyone members and non-members. Entries on the day only. Registration will be at the normal registration point at Open Water Swimming (the car!).

79.     The last day for open water swimming this season is Saturday 29th September 2007.

The winter schedule starts from the 1st October and therefore the pool sessions are as follows:

Monday 8-9pm - Cost £3.00 per member per session (£4.00 per non-member per session) at Friary Grange Leisure Centre, Eastern Avenue, Lichfield, Staffordshire, WS13 7EU.   This session is shared with Burntwood Triathlon Club.

Saturday 7:30-8:30am - Cost £2.50 per member per session (£3.00 per non member per session) at Meadowside Leisure Centre, Burton-on-Trent.   This may incorporate the new junior section swimming but will primarily concentrate on adults until the new coaches have qualified and the junior section has been started.

Therefore the swimming on Wednesday evening with Burton Swimming Club is now cancelled as one lane is now not enough for our expanding club.

Please, please, please, please use the Saturday session it or we may lose it.   Swimming time is a premium at Meadowside and I know some of you go to other clubs swimming sessions, but please support your club.

78.   Congratulations to all who completed the ITU Triathlon World Championships last weekend.   Dan Hawksworth, Abbey Norman, Stacey Eccles, Steve Elliot and Brian Welsh competed in the Olympic and Sprint   races and produced some great times and I've heard a fabulous time was had by all and the atmoshere was electric.

77.     The normal Sunday ride this weekend is cancelled (2nd September 2007) due to the Audax.   All the people competing in the Audax 107km cycle this Sunday,   please meet in Rosliston latest 9:00am (hurrah, a lie in!!) ready for starting at 9:30am in Rosliston.   It looks like its going to be dry weather!       This will be a very comfortable ride at a pace we all can handle. This is not meant to be a race but an exercise on time in the saddle. We should be back by the very latest 2-3pm, even if we have a really long lunch. If anyone wants to race it, then please bring your own map.

76.       Congratulations to all who completed the Rugby Sprint and Blithfield Olympic last weekend.   Glynis Yates (Rugby), Dave Hollyoak, Paul Jurczuk, Nigel Elson, Rachel Hall, Ben Starbuck, Adrian Williamson, Warren Simms, Andy Hyland, Sam Johns, Kate Poxon and Melanie Bridgen   competed in the races and a great time was had by all.

72.   Please note that all club coaches and some MVH members will be attending the London   Triathlon   this weekend (4-5th August 2007).   Therefore the Sunday Cycle this weekend (5th August) is cancelled.   This does not effect the Open Water Swimming this Saturday (4th August) as this will continue as normal.

71.     Well done to   Matthew Nell who finished the Trentham Big Half in an astonishing time.   Although this was not a Club Championship race, Matthew now tops the Hall of Fame in the 'Middle Distance' catagory as he entered as an 'MVH Tri Club'   member.

Please see the results page for the times and updated Championship Standings.   Please   note   changes to the 'Hall of Fame' web page.

68.         Dont forget, there are a few members competing in the Wakefield Olympic Triathlon and Ironman Austria this weekend (8th July 2007).   We wish them all the best of luck and hope that they come home safe and injury free.

67.         A massive well   done to Warren Simms, Nigel Elson, Adrian Williamson, Alex Arrowsmith, Simon Billson and Des Cowie   for completeing the Ironman Switzerland on the 24th June 2007, all in fantastic times!   Sadly Paul Jurczuk had to pull out due to an accident he suffered on the run, but he is ok and already planning his next Ironman!

Also a big thanks to all the supporters who attended in Switzerland as there encouragement was a great help and was heard by everyone who competed, not just MVH!   Many thanks to Ben Starbuck and Rachel who looked after the OW Swimming and Sunday Cycling respectively and thank you all to everyone who watched the Ironman Live broadcasts and supported us from back home in UK.   The support from UK and every member and non-members was greatly appreciated and brought many an Ironman to tears on several occasions.

I know that some members competed in some non-club championship races and a great big well done to them all.   I beileve this includes Melanie, Sam, Ben, Paul, and Keith (I apologise if I have missed anyone.   Grant McKinlay also competed in the European Duathlon Championships in Edinburgh   and recorded a very decent and respectable time, well done to him.

Please see the results page for the times and updated Championship Standings.   Please also note that there have been a few changes to the 'Hall of Fame' web page.

66.   Please note the following - There will be no changes to the training schedule for the next three weeks, however the following members will take the training sessions due to the absence of the club coaches (they are over in Switzerland):

Rachel Hall will be taking the Sunday morning   cycle sessions (17th, 24th June and 1st July 2007).   From the usual place (Meynell Pub 9:00am).

Ben Starbuck will be on resgistration at both the Wednesday evening (6:30-7:30pm) and the Saturday morning (8:00-10:00am)   open water swim sessions.     Ben will be on registration on Sat 16th, Wed 20th, Sat 23rd, Wed 27th and Sat 30th all June 2007, although we all should be back from Switzerland then.

Please help them both in making both sessions as safe as possible.

64.   A massive well   done to all who competed at Stratford (Melanie Bridgen, Sam Johns, Clare Williamson, Ben Starbuck, Warren Simms, Adrian Williamson, Andy Hyland, Des Cowie, Alex Arrowsmith   and Nigel Elson).   A great big congratulations to Melanie Bridgen who won her   race in her first ever race!   Everyone enjoyed the day despite the bad weather, (only when then girls were all racing).   Also a big well done to Grant McKinlay who competed in the Skinfit Triathlon in Derby.   Please see the results page for the times and updated Championship Standings.   Please also note that there have been a few changes to the 'Hall of Fame' web page.

69.   MVH Tri Club member Grant Mckinlay has qualified for the World Duathlon Championships at the Cambridge Duathlon last Sunday 15th April!   I believe this may also qualify his automatically for the European Championships.   His times were:   Grant Mckinlay Position=88th / Cat Position=9th.   First Run = 00:28:54 (7.5km) Bike = 01:13:51 (40km) Second Run = 00:30:1canceled (7.5km) Overall = 02:12:55.   I'm sure that you will join me in congratulating Grant in his success.

64.     There will be a late addition to the Club Championship Races, which I completely forgot about.   The Ironman UK will be added from today (19th March), no more will be added after today.   My apologies to Paul Allsop.

See you all over the festive period and in the New Year, have a good one!

54.   More fabulous news from National League.   Something else to celebrate come the Xmas Party. Quote from Kevin Robinson - Organiser of the National Triathlon League.

"I'm happy to tell you that Meynell Valley Hunters Tri
have won the trophy for small squads (3 - 6 members)".
Many thanks to Grant McKinlay (above picture) for switching his allegiance to MVH.

53.   Great news.   We have been awarded the funds to buy equipment for exclusive use by MVH Tri Club!! How great is that!!

The East Staffordshire Sports Council asked myself and Clare to attend a meeting last night at Meadowside in Burton to present our case and they believe our club is perfect to benefit from such an award.

When we have purchased they turbo's they want to organise an official 'photo shoot', to present one of those 'BIG CHEQUES' and get us in the local paper etc.

Therefore, please keep note that, probably from early January, we will start holding turbo session, midweek and weekends (if the weather is foul). However I am open to ideas from everyone. Rachel has a good location to use, but I need ideas of times etc.

Hurrah for MVH, onwards and upwards!

52.     In our first season, MVH Tri Club has finished 13th in the National Triathlon League! Grant McKinley finished 44th, Alex Arrowsmith 76th and Adrian Williamson, 82nd.

51.   There will be a club cycling/training session this Sunday 26th November 2006 starting from two places this week:

1. The Meynell Pub in Hoar Cross - 8:00am. See map link (DE13 8RB )

2. John Port School, Main Street, Etwall, Derbyshire - 9:00am. See map link (DE65 6LU )

Its up to you where you start from but the start from Hoar Cross will add approx 20 miles (Hoar cross to Etwall and back) to the journey. Therefore, it will take us approx canceled hour to get to Etwall from Hoar Cross and this is the reason we are starting at 8am. The reason we are going via Etwall is to pick up the Derby Triathlon Club who will just be getting over there hangovers from their annual do the night before!!

To confirm:

1. From the Meynall - Cycling session approx 4.5 hours (approx 60-65 miles-ish) followed by a 15-30 min run (only if you want to!). Max heart rate, not above 70% (hurrah!) therefore this should be comfortable for most people.

2. From Etwall - Cycling session approx 3.5 hours (approx 45-50 miles-ish) followed by a 15-30 min run (only if you want to!). Max heart rate, not above 70% (hurrah!) therefore this should be comfortable for most people.

3. There may be a smaller bike session organised by Clare Williamson for approx canceled hour (approx 15-20 miles) in the Hoar Cross area. Please contact or text 07976 240198 for more details.

The sessions will finish approx 13:00-13:30am ish (for sessions canceled and 2). Session 3 TBC (depending on when it starts). Remember to bring money for the café at Carsington and food to eat on your bike to keep you going.

If you want to see what the weather is going to be like for Sunday click below:

43.   There will be a club cycling/training session this Sunday 15th October 2006 at 9:00am starting from the Meynell Pub in Hoar Cross (there is too much construction work happening at Barton Marina for my car's comfort).

1. Long cycling session approx 2 hours (approx 30-35 miles-ish) followed by a 15-30 min run (only if you want to!). Max heart rate, not above 70% (hurrah!) therefore this should be comfortable for most people.

The sessions will finish approx 11:30am back at the pub then at 1pm the AGM will start. Followed by drinks back down the pub and plenty of merriment etc……..

42.   Due to the new open water swim session on Wednesday evenings now finished.   We have now moved back to Meadowside pool (Burton-on-Trent) starting this Wednesday (11th Oct 2006).   Cost is still £2.50 per session per member from 8:20pm to 9:10pm.

41.   After a long hard season we now have something to shout about and claim as the club's first title and honour!   We unexpectedly won the relay event at the Carsington Duathlon!   A fabulous effort was made by the team and held off the late challenge from the runners up.   The winners prizes are currently be sampled in celebration (wine)!   This now means that we are a competative club! Therefore we will have to at least defend our title next year.   Don't think you won't be picked for the team as the quickest does not necessarily mean automatic choice.

So well done to Alex Arrowsmith, Rachel Hall and Adrian Williamson who blazed the trail in a time of 1:37:01 for 5k-30k-5k.   The results of all the races can be found on the 'results' (click)   page.

The current committee have decided this due to the landlord of the 'Meynell Pub' being on holiday and therefore cannot commit to a date and we cannot let this linger on any further.

Everyone is invited (however it is not compulsory to attend) and drinks and bites will be provided.   We don't expect this to drag on all afternoon as   we propose that we all go to the pub afterwards………etc. Please confirm your attendance to the Chairman so   we know how much food and drink to buy.

There will probably be some cycle training prior to the AGM to make it a bit more worthwhile attending, however this will be decided closer to the time.
